In lieu of a traditional Open House, we have implemented our own version of Academic Parent Teacher Teams (W.I.G.S.) for the past 4 years. We find that W.I.G.S. gives parents and teachers an opportunity to collaborate regarding students' academic performance, and to set realistic goals for the school year. What? Modeled after Academic Parent Teacher Teams, WIGS will provide teachers and families a time and place to share student performance data and set/monitor achievable, measurable, student- centered academic goals.
Why? Enhances the teacher-parent relationship Maximizes student learning through home practice of academic skills Creates purposeful partnerships with families Shares the responsibility for student learning
How? Teachers will provide parents with an in-depth coaching session on how to interpret their child’s data based on overall classroom performance and district-wide assessments. Parents will be provided with strategies and tools to help support learning at home. Together, parents and teachers will monitor/set individual goals for students.
